Hobart is the capital of the Australian state of Tasmania, an island that lies 150 miles south of the mainland. Hobart, with a population of a little over 212,000, straddles the Derwent River's estuary. Cairo is not just any city, with its history stretching back thousands of years. Cairo's Arabic name is al-Qahirah, which means "The Conquerors." Native Egyptians even call Cairo "Masr," meaning Egypt, reflecting its influence on the country as a whole.
