Bristol is the unofficial capital of the West Country of England, with an estimated population of 433,100 (2009) and a larger urban area of 1,070,000 (2007), it is the 8th largest city in the UK. In 1155 it received the Royal Charter and it was granted county status in 1373 . Somerset and Gloucestershire are the counties on its borders and the historic Bath, Gloucester and Cardiff are its nearest cities.

Many people consider relocating abroad often in pursuit of warmer climes and a better quality of life.
