The famous Mexican port city of Cancun consists of two parts: The narrow Cancun Island is surrounded by the Bahai de Mujeres (Bay of Women), the Caribbean Sea , and the Nichupte and Bojorquez lagoons. Its 14-mile long stretch is lined with beautiful sand beaches. Mainland Cancun is a dynamic a commercial hub and houses broad avenues with whitewashed restaurants, hotels and shops. Two bridges connect the island and the mainland.

Though recently, the city and its booming tourism industry were jeopardized by Hurricane Wilma on October 22 , 2005, the city has recovered and people have begun coming back to Cancun. Four million visitors reach the shores of Cancun each year on a staggering average of 190 flights a day to enjoy its beaches and ancient Maya ruins. There are regular bus services to the carefully excavated coastal ruins of Tulum and framed by powder white beaches. A 2-hour tour service costs nearly 60 pesos.
