If you have ever traveled with your children, you know that it can sometimes be a difficult and trying process. Many people figure that once they have kids, traveling is really no longer an option. Or at the very least, they confine themselves to road trips, where they don't have to deal with the complexities and difficulties of the typical post 9-11 airport. However, by taking some steps and learning to assert yourself, traveling with children can be not so difficult. One of the hardest things is to ensure you sit together on a plane. Some people think that this is impossible, however, in this article, you'll learn how easy it actually is.

The sooner you ask about seating arrangements, the better. The best time to ask is when you are first purchasing your tickets. Make sure you mention your children up front, and that you expect to sit together with them. This may sound silly, but you'll have to repeat this several times. The reason for this is that the person on the other end of the phone is going to have to input some kind of note in the computer system alerting the various airline staff that a parent is traveling with their children and they must sit with them.

Of course, with so many airlines struggling to make money these days, they'll charge you a fee for anything they can. And that includes being able to sit with your kids. So make sure you ask up front how much it is, so you don't get surprised later on when you show up at the airport.

Of course, not all airlines will let you get assigned seating. This means they are using the "first come, first served" method. Naturally, this means it's everybody for themselves, and if you want to sit together with your kids, you're going to have to get to the airport plenty early. You'll also have to instruct your kids that when it's time to board, they can't take their time and look around. You've got to move together as a group, and quickly find as many seats as you need next to each other. Decide before getting on who is getting the window seat and who is sitting next to the aisle, and so on.

These are some basic tips, but they can help out quite a bit when traveling when your children. Just remember to get your tickets early, get to the airport early, and state your requirements clearly and often. That way there won't be any problems.
