If you've got the time, take the bus instead of a plane. Or, if you are going overseas, consider taking a boat. There are plenty of cargo ships that rent rooms for cheap.

If you really want to get creative, you can pretend you are on vacation in your own town. See the sites that only tourists see, and walk around with fresh eyes. This may sound a bit goofy, but it's really a lot of fun. And it will save you a ton of cash.
