The months of May to August are prime festival dates for Costa Rica. The following are the renowned celebrations held in the country during these particular months.

In the month of May:

1. Dia de los Trabajadores. May 1 marks the celebration of this holiday and on this day trade unions organize marches and parades to honor Labor Day and laborers throughout the country.

2. Fiesta Civica. Held in early May in the town of Canas, the festival has many cowboy traditions such as the rodeo, bullfights, horse parades called topes and street fairs.

3. Corpus Christi. Celebrated on May 29 in the towns of Pacayas and Cartago, this festival has a very religious theme to it with many religious processions and many church celebrations.

In the month of June:

1. Monteverde Ecotouristic Fair. Held in the middle of June, the celebration has many educational and cultural activities with live concerts and theater performances.

2. Dia de San Pedro y San Pablo. Held on June 29, this festival is held in San Jose to celebrate the life and works of St. Peter and St. Paul.

3. Compania de Lirica Nacional. Held between mid June to mid August, this is a period of performances held by the National Lyric Opera Company at the Melico Salazar Theater.

In the month of July:

1. Festival de la Virgen del Mar. Held in mid-July, this is also called the "Sea Festival". The celebrations are held in Puntarenas where Carmen, the Virgin of Sea is honored with religious processions, a boating regatta and fireworks display.

2. Dia de la Anexion de Guanacaste. Held on July 25, this festival commemorates the annexation of Guanacaste by Costa Rica in 1824. It has parades and other celebrations.

3. Chorotega Tourist Fair. Held in late July in the town of Nicoya, this is a celebration of the Chorotega culture with food festivals and other educational activities.

4. International Festival of Music. Held between July and August, international musicians would perform classical music concerts in many venues throughout Costa Rica.

In the month of August:

1. Dia de Nuestra Senora de la Virgen de los Angeles. Celebrated on August 2 in the town of Cartago, it is the celebration of the town's patron saint, called La Negrita. The central place for this festival is the Basilica of Cartago.

2. Liberia Blanca Culture Week. Held in early August, this celebration is about the country's cowboy tradition and other local festivities.

3. Dia de San Ramon. Held on the last day of August in the town of San Ramon de Alajuela, this is a celebration honoring the patron saint of the town in a procession with marimba music, horse parades or topes and local delicacies festivals.
