Historic Yachats Oregon Tells A Story
Oregon is a region of the country that is full of wonderful surprises. Every part of Oregon has a distinct flavor of its own, which draws visitors in to say the least. Giving Oregon its mind, body and soul are its cities, which are unique, yet have something in common that brings them together.
One the many enchanting cities of Oregon is Yachats. The city is located on one of the most beautiful stretches of the central Oregon coastline, with an expanse of a mere 2.3 square km surprises everybody with the amount of delectable experiences it can hold for tourists.
Yachats Oregon has as colorful a history as it has a present. The city has its roots going back more than 1500 years, when nomad tribes inhabited the place, treating it as their home in the summertime. Many ancient villages have been unearthed by the river over the years, which is proof of the city's early origins. And each of the different tribes has influenced the Oregon coastline in some way or the other.
The best place to have a personal encounter with the enchanting history of the area is the Little Log Church. Dating back to 1926, the church has been renovated to form the museum of the City of Yachats. The museum inside the church houses thousands of historical artifacts of the city which give you a peek into the historical significance of the place. And by chance if you plan your trip to Yachats around Valentine's Day, you can renew your marital vows here at a grand ceremony.
To experience the spirit of the city, there is the Yachats Commons, which dates back to 1930s. Apart from being the venue for various movies, plays and music concerts throughout the year, it is also the venue for the Yachats Farmers Markets.
But it's not only the rich culture and history of the place which is an attraction. The city of Yachats, Oregon is equally blessed with natural wonders, the most famous of which is Siuslaw National Forest. This preserved area lies on the outskirts of the city and is a haven for nature lovers. There are numerous hiking trails to be had here which give you a chance to get up, close and personal with nature. The combination of a National Forest and beautiful coast makes for a wonderful Oregon experience.
There is also the Gerdemann Botanical Reserve and the Ten Mile Creek Sanctuary here which should be on your to do list for this in the city. The former houses exotic species of flowers which include South African Honey Bush, Tasmanian Tree Ferns, Chilean Flame and other wonderful garden surprises.
The Ten Mile Creek Sanctuary is a protected area for wildlife where one can spot the Roosevelt Elk, the rare Bald Eagle, Marbled Murrelet and the Coho Salmon among others. Like most cities of Oregon, Yachats is a city which is best experienced when explored at a leisurely pace. A fun way to mingle with the locals here is during the Yachats La De Da Parade, which is held every year on July 4. It features music, dance and a whole lot of fun and is open for anybody willing enough to participate.
There is also the annual Yachats Celtic Music Festival, which is held at the start of November here. The festival features music shows across the city, with some of the most renowned Celtic artists descending upon the city. Calling the atmosphere FUN in Yachats during this time of the year would be an understatement.
Among the many places to stay, visitors have been enjoying the crashing waves at their windows at the Yachats Inn for generations. You will not be disappointed!
Summers are the preferred season in Yachats, but winters have a charm of their own, including the viewing of the winter storms off the Oregon coast. The slight chill in the air during winters blends well with the warmth of the locals in this laid back town. With the ocean, the national forest, the gardens and other activities, don't worry about the timing of your visit. Any season is a grand opportunity for visiting Yachats!
