Seaside, located on the northern part of the Oregon coast, is a quaint town, just a short 1 Hour 20 minute drive away from Portland and less than 30 minutes from Historic Astoria Oregon. Discover Seasides beauty by walking its streets or bicycle past the retail stores downtown shops decorated with flowered baskets. The city is a nice blend of the old and the new, with old-fashioned galleries such as Shearwater Art, located in the heart of the downtown, just 1/2 block from the beach and the historic Turnaround monument. Of the many things to do in Seaside Oregon, one not to be missed is coming face to face with seals at the Seaside Aquarium. The aquarium is more than 70 years old and one of the communities key attractions. You can toss a piece of the fish to the excited seals or be awed by the gigantic 35 foot skeleton of a Blue Whale installed outside the building. Another element of natures best in Seaside is of course, the promenade walk. The 1.5 mile long seaside walk is an ideal way to enjoy the scenic vistas of the Pacific Ocean or take in the local culture, which is very evident here. People throng to the promenade at sunrise and sunset to spend some blissful moments with nature. Just in case if you are feeling hungry after a refreshing walk or bicycle ride along the ocean, there are plenty of cafes and full menu restaurants to fill your appetite. Steelhead trout, salmon and other game fish are just waiting to challenge anglers. Seasides 12 Avenue Bridge is a crabbers paradise! This quaint seafront town also has a distinct artistic culture of its own which can be experienced in the citys downtown art galleries. If you find yourself too confused on what to visit and what not to visit, the city organizes an Art Walk on the first Saturday of every month. The walk takes you through diverse art museums and galleries which give you a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Coastal Oregon. Seaside is a place to explore and be discovered, for there are surprises at every bend here. With sunny weather and a nice sea breeze, summers are the favored tourist season here, but that takes nothing away from winters. You will want to indulge in it to really experience its charm. Look into the Sandcastle Building Competitions, Treasure Hunts on the beach, Motorcycle Festivals and plan festival and water attractions. And before we forget to mention it, there is some excellent shopping therapy here. The Seaside Carousel Mall is the favorite retail destination, along with local souvenirs that are available in the Gilbert District here, famous for its boutiques and quaint shops.
