It's really great to travel. Many people enjoy going out of town for a while. One of the nice things about traveling is staying in hotels. Somebody comes in to change your sheets every night. You get fresh towels every day. Room service is awesome, and the mini bar is one of the greatest inventions of humankind. However, staying at a hotel isn't without it's drawbacks. There are some dangers involved that you should be aware of. In this article, you'll learn how to stay safe while staying at a hotel.

First of all, whenever you are in your room, you should keep your door locked from the inside. Who knows how secure those room keys are. And also the cleaning staff has master keys. If somebody sees you, and decides you are an easy target for a robbery, getting a room key can be surprisingly easy. That's why you should always lock your door from the inside.

Along those same lines, you shouldn't dally too much when opening your room. Have your key out and ready, so you don't stand there very long. Thieves and robbers hang out in elevator lobbies waiting just for people like that. They run up, shove them around a little bit, grab their wallets, and make a quick getaway. The only defense against this is to get inside your room as quickly as possible.

Of course, it's not possible to carry all your stuff with you, so you'll need to leave some of it in your room whenever you leave. Since it can be tempting to the cleaning staff (who might not even be making minimum wage) to take some of it if it's left lying out, you should always hide it. That way there will be no temptation, and no thievery.

Only open your hotel room door if you are expecting somebody, like room service. Otherwise, if somebody comes knocking, ask for some kind of identification, then call the front desk to verify who they are before you open your door.

If you give out your room number to somebody you've just met, then you could be setting yourself up for a robbery. While they are sweet talking you and taking up all of your time, their buddies (who they texted your room number to) are busy ransacking your room and taking all your valuables. So never give out your room number.

When you follow these tips, you'll have a much safer time. You'll be much less likely to be robbed, and much more likely to have an enjoyable trip.
