Traveling by car is increasingly becoming the preferred way to go for many people. There are quite a bit of advantages, covering a variety of economic and logistical reasons. It's easy to travel on a whim, jumping into your car and seeing where you may end up. Also, if you want to travel with your family, it can be a great way to see the sights that are near you to. However, traveling by car doesn't come without its dangers. That's why you've got to take concrete steps to keep your car disaster ready at all times. In this article, you'll learn some essential things to carry in your car at all times, to help you be prepared if you ever run into trouble.

The first thing you'll need is a flash light. And not the light that comes with your cell phone. We're talking about one of those big industrial lights with plenty of candle power. Preferably one that's waterproof. Keep it in your trunk until you need to use it. Of course, you are going to need some extra batteries as well, in case you run out.

The next thing you'll need is one of those plastic flashing lights. If you need to stop in the middle of the night and change a tire or something, you don't want somebody to crash into you. You could get some flares, but these might not work in the rain, or thy sometimes can be hard to start. However, with a plastic, waterproof, flashing light, you'll be able to use it during all weather conditions.

Obviously, you need jumper cables. Even if you have a service that will come to your location and give you a jump, it's not a good idea to depend on them or on others. With your own pair of jumper cables, you can easily flag down a helpful motorist that can give you a hand.

You never know when you are going to get stranded somewhere. This can be doubly inconvenient if you are with your family. In this case, it's a good idea to have plenty of snacks and water available. This can keep people from worrying too much, and can keep everybody's spirits up. Just make sure whatever snacks you choose have an expiration date far off into the future.

Key to everything is a first aid kit. Get the biggest one you can find, and make sure it's got everything you can think of. Stay away from those small kits (often times given for free as promotional items) that contain only a few bandages and a bottle of aspirin. Get a big one that contains all kinds of tape, gauze, rubber gloves, scissors, smelling salts, the whole works. You never know what kind of emergency you are going to run into.

When you fill your car with these items, there's not much you can't handle. Just keep calm, call the authorities if you need to, and take care of business in the meantime. Have fun traveling.
