Chalets are two stories tall and sometimes a half story will be added for a loft. Since they are normally placed in the mountains, they offer large fireplaces with grand stone chimneys. No matter where they are built, they're most likely to offer large windows featuring a picturesque scene from inside.

These homes appeared and became popular with their comfortable and warm style in the late 19th century and early 20th century. This unique and decorative style of architecture finally made its way over to America starting around 1885. This style of home is still being built to this day.
