Because of the ease of travel and increased economic cooperation between countries has allowed many expats to set up shop in other countries. One of the overlooked business hubs in the South American continent is Peru and now with its current growth, it is seen as one of the fastest growing economies in the region.

Setting up shop though in Peru is not too complicated nor is it too simple. The following are the basic things needed in living and doing business in Lima, the capital of Peru.

Immigration Formalities. One of the first things that needs to be addressed are the immigration guidelines set in Peru. Tourists are allowed to remain in the country for ninety (90) days and can extend such granted visa to another thirty (30) days. This extension procedure can be availed of at most three more times and after such exhaustion of remedies, one needs to leave the country but would be allowed to return immediately. Working in Peru though requires one to obtain a business visa that is valid for ninety (90) days. One cannot convert a current tourist visa into a business visa but must go through the process of applying to a Peruvian consulate overseas for a business visa to be able to work in the country.

Business Formalities. To be allowed to set up a company in Peru, there are two options available. The first one is the outright investment of US$25,000 while the second one is the hiring of a local entrepreneur and the direct investment of capital into the enterprise opened in the name of the local. After establishment of the company, the foreign investor can then start to apply for residency visas. This involves being contracted and submitting such contract to the Ministry of Work and then coordinating with the Immigration Office as to the application for a residence visa. After issuance of the visa, one can be deemed a resident of the country and from there obtain the Carnet de Residencia or residency card.

Accommodation Formalities. Depending on one's budget, there are many options for living accommodations in the country. There are short-term apartment hotel rentals to cheap apartments in residential areas to penthouses with picturesque views or villas with gated security. One of the more popular locations is Miraflores because it has an ocean view and has easy access to a modern shopping center with all the available amenities.
