The one question asked by all Australian women who have ever considered a breast augmentation- how much will it cost?

The answer varies, and there are a large amount of variables which will effect this. This includes the surgeon, the operation (including implants) and the medical facility you choose. I would like to expand on each of these below-

The Surgeon- How qualified is your surgeon? How many years experience have they had? Are they only a cosmetic surgeon or a plastic surgeon as well? (There is approx. 5 years extra study + practice to become a plastic surgeon) The difference is that a cosmetic surgeon is qualified to inject botox into your brow, while a plastic surgeon can reconstruct your face after a horrific car accident. You can expect to pay significantly more for a plastic surgeon.

The Operation (Including implants)- There are also many different styles of implant you could choose, including but not limited to Brazilian implants (They are meant to be textured so as to not fall lower over time,) Silicone implants, Saline Implants etc. There are also variables as to how the implant will be inserted. This can also effect breast implant costs for Australians. Depending on the muscular shape of your chest, your surgeon might wish to put the implant below the chest muscle. This is a little more expensive, but tends to give a more natural look- however it may not be necessary for a positive outcome in all cases.

The Medical Facility- This is perhaps one of the most defining factors in breast implant costs for Australians. You can have your operation in a day clinic, or in a hospital. Personal accounts I have heard from friends who had the operation in clinics is that they didn't feel comfortable with the lack of resources readily available should there be a complication while they were under general anesthetic.

My recommendation to all Australians researching breast implant costs is to look at going overseas. My personal experience with my partner who travelled to Thailand for her breast augmentation was very satisfying. We were quoted $8,000 AUD to have the procedure done in a day clinic by a cosmetic surgeon, and it was upwards of $12,000 AUD to have the procedure done by a fully qualified plastic surgeon in a hospital.

There was a medical tourism provider called Cosmeditour that we found to be quite reliable. The girls worked with us through all of our questions and any worries we had. My partners quote for the actual procedure was $3,800 AUD (Including under the muscle operation) and an extra $2000 for flights and accommodation. Bringing her total to $5,800 AUD, including a two week holiday. The Hospital we used was Phuket International, and we found it to be very comfortable. She even decided she wanted some laser work done on her face because of some old acne scarring and a dermatologist came to visit that day and organised for it all to happen (I think it cost $230 as opposed to over $1000 she had been quoted here.)

What I can say is this- shop around, compare your prices, and if you are concerned about anything, ask questions. I highly recommend the company we used to all of my mates and their girlfriends who ask, particularly if they are worried about breast implant costs here in Australia.
