What To Pack For A Scottish Walking Holiday
In recent years, the Scottish highlands have become an increasingly popular destination for a hill walking holiday. Holidays in Scotland, and especially walking tours and hiking holidays, are an ideal way to get fit while enjoying the stunning scenery of mountains, lochs and rivers.
It is important that you pack exactly what you need for a walking holiday - nothing more, nothing less. Walking holidays in Scotland are much more pleasant when travelling light, so that you are in complete freedom to discover the beauty of the Scottish highlands.
Among the wide range of walking holiday routes that Scotland has to offer, the West Highland Way is probably one of the most scenic and breathtaking. Below is a list of things to pack to ensure you have everything you need to enjoy a successful hike on this stunning path.
First of all, before you leave, it is recommended to make a list of all the items you need to bring with you. Try to avoid packing everything you think you might need. Many people throw in too many items just to make sure that they are covered in any situation. You will be bringing a day pack with you during the walk and carrying excess baggage will only slow you down. Even if you are using a luggage transport service which allows you to pick up or drop off luggage at one of the main stops along the way, you are usually only allowed a maximum of 15kg.
Since you will be carrying it around throughout your journey, make sure your bag is comfortable. You might not find any shops at various points of your trip, so bring drinks and snacks. Moreover, you should take into account that the Scottish weather can be very variable. Be prepared for any type of weather and bring sunscreen and sunglasses as well as a waterproof coat, hat and gloves. As for your shoes, waterproof boots would probably be the best option, although you should not forget to bring a pair of comfortable casual shoes which you can wear in the evenings, preferably waterproof since sudden rain showers are common.
And finally, a first aid kit is vital when you are out walking. Make sure you include plasters and even some elastic bandage supports (which are very helpful in case of a sprain).
Before leaving for your walking holiday you are advised to check this list thoroughly. Now you are ready to have an enjoyable and stress-free trip!
