You may be a bit nervous about surviving the travel that will be involved in your upcoming business trip. Even if you enjoy traveling and have used airports, bus stations, and other sources of transportation in your personal life, there is an added element of stress when you are doing it for a business trip. The stress comes from knowing that there are greater consequences if something goes wrong on this type of trip.

If you do not make it to the airport on time and miss a flight, your job could be at risk as you will not arrive to your destination on time and the company could be out money spent on the airfare. If you do not manage your budget well, you could run out of money needed to entertain during business gatherings and meetings throughout the trip. If you do not pack everything that you need for all situations that may come up on the trip, then you risk looking unprepared in front of important colleagues, clients or potential clients.

There are a lot of things working against you when it comes to traveling for a business trip. Flights can be delayed at any point, and without warning. One delay could lead to a missed connection, which throws all of your travel plans into chaos. Missed flights and connections could result in hours or even days sitting in airports, rather than being where you are supposed to be at your final destination.

If you have important meetings and other gatherings to attend, the stress to get through the travel arrangements without delay is even more intense. If you are feeling the stress and want to make sure this business trip goes as smooth as possible, here are some tips that could help you out:

1. Spend your time waiting because you are early, rather than because you are late. You have to get to the airport early enough to get through security checks, check into your flight, check your bags, and walk behind those slow crowds who seem to be on holiday rather than business. If you get there early, you might spend some time waiting to board your flight or bus, but it will be stress-free waiting time. If you get there late or barely on time, it could turn into stressful waiting time as you miss a flight or bus and have to find another one.

2. Try to leave for the trip a day or two early, and schedule an extra day or two before any meetings when you return. You should have that cushion of at least twenty-four hours where you can be delayed without stressing out because you are missing something important. If you get there on time, then you just have some time to refresh from the travel and show up for your meetings fresh.

3. Try to select flights that are first for the day, as they tend to be delayed less. One flight gets behind and all others falling behind it get behind, but that is less likely to happen if you are the very first flight of the day.

There is no way to ensure that every business trip is going to run completely smooth. Things happen, and you will occasionally have problems on a trip. If you take precautions to give yourself some time padding, it can be a lot less stressful to deal with when it does happen.
