Going on a road trip is an amazing and cheap way to enjoy your vacation time. You don't need a lot of planning, just a decent destination, and a full tank of gas. Kids love road trips because they can go somewhere they've never been to before. And road trips are also wonderful time for the family to spend some quality time with each other. However, there are some things you need to keep in mind before jumping in the car and heading off into the sunset. In order to have a safe trip, there are certain things you should keep in your car at all times. Things you'll learn in this article.

First of all, you need a powerful flashlight, stocked with fresh batteries. Also having a backup set of batteries would be good, just in case. You never know when you are going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. Having a light can also help when need to look under your hood at night to figure out where that strange rattling noise is coming from.

In addition to a flashlight, you'll also need a flashing light. You can put this behind your car if you need to pull to the side of the road while it's dark. This way, other cars can see you. You don't want somebody slamming into the side of your car while you are changing the tire, that would ruin everything.

Naturally, jumper cables should be required in every car. You never know when your battery is going to unexpectedly die on you. It's embarrassing enough to ask somebody for a jump, let alone asking them for a jump along with some jumper cables.

A large, regulation gas can is also a must. Even if you have a roadside assistance agreement with Triple A or some other organization, you never know. You might be less than a mile from a gas station, while Triple A might be an hour or two from your location.

In case your car breaks down, and needs to be towed to a repair shop, you'll need to do one of two things. One is to call a tow truck, which will cost about a million dollars (not really, but you get the idea), or you could simply ask somebody to pull you to the nearest place. In order for this to work, you're going to need a tow strap. These are pretty cheap, and you can get them at any auto parts store.

An emergency supply of water and high calorie snacks are important in case you have to sit around waiting for somebody to come to your rescue. Keep a few liters of water in the trunk, along with some non perishable snacks like Power Bars or something to keep you going.

Naturally, you should have a first aid kid. Make sure to get one of those big ones, that can handle pretty much everything.

When you keep all the above items in your car, there isn't much that can come up that you can't handle. Just keep calm, regardless of the situation, and you'll be fine.
