Many folk wonder what life would be like in Central Portugal and dream of going for it, relocating to a rustic village spot where they can relax and slow down. In fact, Lagares is one such village, where individuals deliver items such as fresh bread, meat, fish, and groceries in vans direct to the door. This charming and friendly traditional area is beautifully situated but with easy access to connecting routes leading to the rest of Central Portugal.
So what does this charming location have to offer ? Well, how about being able to take a short stroll leading you to Travanca do Mondego? Here you will find several cafe/bars and convenient supermarkets, along with educational facilities and several park areas.
Not only that but the rural nature of the area lends itself to many outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking and horseback riding along the hundreds of expanse of woodland. In a matter of minutes, you can reach many waterside locations where you can enjoy a number of water activities for example sailing, kayaking, wake boarding, fly fishing and swimming. This reservoir is fed by the Rivers Alva and Mondego. As well as swimming, sunbathing, running a small dingy, or having a BBQ, there is the Montebelo Aguiera lake resort and marina plus plenty of other restaurants and bars in the area.
Lagares has incredible views of mountainside for your enjoyment. These can be reached in only half an hour where you will find the Montebelo golf course. Situated in the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo mountain ranges, this golf course offers some of the most sensational environments in Portugal.
The friendly town of Sao Pedro de Alva is only 4 kilometres away from Lagares. And here you can find secondary education, health clinics, banking, a post office and various shops with many choices of refreshment in local bars and cafe's'. For more stores and choice of facilities you can reach Penacova, Mortagua, Santa Comba Dao or Coimbra within 15 to 30 minutes. Coimbra includes a selection of impressive malls with cinema's, bowling and vast food halls. It is a historical University City, and home to the Universidade de Coimbra. The Universidade was founded in 1290. The unique architecture and charm of this City will offer many opportunities to explore. Just 10 miles away from Coimbra you will find the Roman ruins of Conimbriga,still in the process of being meticulously unearthed whilst other parts are available for a day trip for visitors.
