History Of Lismore
New South Wales is popular for its sub-tropical town Lismore. This place is one of the most populous centres in local area and it is also the regional centre of Northern Rivers. You will mainly find here people of Aboriginal Bundjalung area. As per the evidences, these aboriginal people came from Northern Australia approximately seven thousand years back. However, a lot of research is being conducted over the real origins of Bundjalung people. Apart from the actual area of these Aboriginal people, Evans Heads is also under examination. It has been found that Aboriginal people used to call themselves as Tuckurimbah. This means Glutton.
History behind the name of Lismore
European Era of Lismore starts from 1843 century. At that point of time, this area was covered up by 90 kms of pastoral run. This was taken up by the Dumaresq Captain. This area was stocked up with many sheep's through New England. Later on, it was occupied by the Ward Stephens but sub tropical climate was unsuitable for grazing of sheep. Due, to which, this area was finally abandoned. In year 1845, Jane Wilson and William took over this area. Jane and William were of Scottish origin and they later on arrived at New Wales. As per the Hypothesis, William and Jane Wilson are responsible people for naming this area as Lismore.
Events and climate of Lismore
The township of this place Lismore was settled very soon. First post office was established on 1st October, 1859. This place was established as Municipality on 5th March, 1879. Later on, this was proclaimed to be so called city. It was in mid 1950's that this place Lismore used to host a Floral Annual carnival in the month of September. This programme used to continue for a week's periods and it culminated various events such as Crowning of Floral Queen, display of Fireworks and street parades of floats. This place experiences the warm to mild temperature all year. It receives ample amount of rainfall. During the summer seasons, temperature is 20 degree Celsius. This place has got sub tropical climate. Its geographical features suggest that weather will be usually humid in comparison to its surrounding areas. The best thing about this place is that it is not affected by any major environment hazards. This place is renowned for occasional floods. Worst was in year 1974 when water was raised to a level of 12 meters. This place is best for spending your vacations.
