How Can I Include The Antarctic In A Round The World Trip?
Antarctica is a phenomenal destination offering experiences like no other place on Earth. For many, an Antarctic expedition may seem outside your own realms of possibility, but if the BBC's Frozen Planet has left you transfixed in awe at the incredible icescapes and formidable wildlife then perhaps it is time to make it a reality.
The lure of South America is becoming ever more enticing. From the vibrancy of Brazil to the history of Peru; Venezuela's jungles to Ecuador's unrivalled Galapagos Islands. With wonderful hiking opportunities in Patagonia's mountains and lakes, Chilean wine and Argentinian tangos (and steaks) the draw of this fantastic continent is huge.
In response, options for round the world travel get increasingly exotic, so here are five reasons why you might incorporate Antarctica into your round the world trip:
1. Take the opportunity! Argentina is a long way from home so whilst there why not board an expedition ship to this magnificent wilderness. With the option to rent waterproofs and wellies on board all you need in your backpack is a decent set of thermals and a camera!
2. The World is changing - regulations to protect the area mean that vessel options are limited so you can be confident that these small ship adventures take an ecologically responsible approach. It does mean that prices are likely to continue to rise so why delay?
3. With the option of quad share cabins and the knowledge that once on board you will not have to pay for food or any zodiac cruises and landings, you can be assured that this is the right time to make this mind blowing voyage
4. Trips are not suitable for young children so seize the opportunity whilst you are your own priority (pre or post family)
5. How better to begin or end your Round the World trip of a lifetime?! Penguins, seals, whales, icebergs, glaciers....
Suggested Round the World flight itineraries with access to Antarctica;
London - Kenya - Thailand - Australia - Chile // Argentina - London from 1700 pounds per person
Experience the big 5 on safari in Kenya's Masai Mara, relax on a stunning Thai island, visit Sydney's famous harbour and trek in Patagonia's magnificent National Parks before embarking on your Antarctic adventure.
London - Peru - Argentina // Chile - Easter Island - Tahiti - New Zealand - China - Japan - London
Visit Machu Picchu, go wine tasting in Argentina, take an Antarctic trip to South Georgia, the Falklands and the Antarctic peninsula on board a luxury expedition cruise ship before continuing your journey to see the Easter Island's Statues and Tahiti 's glorious beaches. Explore New Zealand, see China's terracotta warriors and the great wall finishing your journey at Mt Fuji in Japan.
