5 Ways to Ruin Your Business Trip
There are a lot of things you need to do to make your business trip pass smoothly, but what are some of the things you should avoid doing before a trip? It turns out there are some common mistakes that business travelers make which wreck havoc on their trips.
1. Spread belongings out over numerous bags.
The more bags you have, the harder it will be to maneuver through the airport, make sure you get everything from baggage claim, and then get yourself to your hotel. This is especially true if you are traveling alone and will not have anyone else to help you carry all of those bags and remember exactly how many bags you have.
It is always better to take only what you need for the business trip, and confine it into as few bags as possible. This way, you know exactly how many bags you have and can easily keep track of them. This cuts down the risk of having a bag stolen or lost, and makes your business trip much easier.
2. Pack a lot of larger sized, heavy items for the trip.
Just as having a lot of bags will make your trip more difficult, lugging around very heavy bags will make the trip difficult as well. If you need something that is bulky or heavy, try to find a more compact, traveler sized version. Many products like hairdryers and curling irons now have compact models designed for traveling. The lighter the bags, the easier they will be to get through the airport and to the hotel.
3. Pack an assortment of shoes, clothing and accessories so you are prepared for anything.
It is understandable that you want to feel prepared for your business trip, but you will gain nothing from over-packing clothing and accessories. Your bags will be too heavy, and you will have more bags than you can possibly keep an eye and hand on during travel. It is better to pack pieces that can be mixed and matched along with a few basic accessories and shoes. You can then put many different outfits together without weighing down your bags.
4. Purchase the cheapest luggage possible, so you do not spend too much on this business trip.
Those who do not go on business trips very often, or who are being sent on their very first trip, often go as cheap as possible on the luggage. This may be because they are short on cash, or it might be that they do not intend to travel often and do not want to spend a lot of money on one business trip.
The problem is that cheap luggage tears up extremely fast. If you do end up going on frequent trips, you will have to purchase new luggage in a short period of time. You might as well just purchase higher quality from the beginning, as it will likely cost less. Cheap luggage can also make a business trip a hassle if it rips or otherwise falls apart during travel.
5. Plan anything in advance, and don't assume someone else will know what you should be doing on the trip.
Always have a plan! You have to know in advance what your goals are for the business trip, how long you will be gone, and details for all meetings you will be attending. Without this, your business trip is not going to be enjoyable.
